So it’s been a while. I feel like I’ve gone cold turkey on a good habit (one that I love) and feel the withdrawal symptoms when I don’t get my fix of geekness. What kept me from my studies, blog and fiddling with text based console terminal? Work, square peg fitting into a round hole the basic life stuff mostly. Something has to pay for the rent and gas in the car. Not that the excuse is really valid but what bought me back?
Where I have relocated to I found this really cool Japanese Sushi bar. Amazing place really all you can eat on Wednesday for R 130 ($13). Anyone want the name and you in Johannesburg really check it out (email me). Sitting there one day and having a meal with some of the family I struck up a conversation with people sitting across the carousel (random yes, not usually what I do most times when zoning in on practically free sushi). I assume the other people to be in networking because it was all Cisco, all routing / switching and other networking at a propeller-head level.
It felt great talking to someone who knew something about what they were talking about, it was all nuts and bolts mind but talking about something that I knew something about (not alot, I’ve read some of the CCIE greats blogs and they know ALOT more but something more than nothing) with someone with shared knowledge awakened me to the fact that I hadn’t actually spent much time on something I love doing, want to be doing and earning a salary doing, and need to work and study at to realize.
My swift spiritual kick to the head has been delivered. My road to Cisco is going to take me longer but hey life is a journey. I’ve set time tables again and made posting guidelines for myself. I wont be updating as regularly but I have a time table in mind of about once if not more a week for notes. This should keep me on track for getting things done.
Let’s get the party started again.

Thanks.
Maybe this time I’m going to follow your advise and just keep going. I think the lessons has been learned though. I need to learn patience because this one is going to be a gradual process.

Yeeaaah! Welcome back my friend! I knew you’d come back someday
Just take things slow and you’ll eventually get there. I just try to make it a point that I’m moving forward regardless of how little the steps maybe. 5mph is better than not moving at all right>
Looking forward to more updates…

Howzit Aragoen,
Good to be back in the land of the living! Baby steps right
Saw your last post for Etherchannel, you really have a good knack for summarizing core concepts.
Never did pick up that skill even though I’ve had numerous people desperately try “teach” me the skill.
I keep focusing (and summarizing) some arb pieces that tend to be not AS important to anyone else BUT me… Ooops, just end up having to do the whole lot and study that. works for me.

Hi there,
Good to see a post from you again! As someone that was really chasing his CCIE, only to have to put it on hold due to a killer work schedule, I know what it feels like. I agree with Aragoen Celtdra, its about little steps.
What I think is important is that we haven’t forgotten our dreams of all things cisco and with time will reach our goals.

Hi Zanetworking
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I’ve had to learn the hard way after being told “it’s all about little steps” now numerous times.
As someone with very little patience and a very high motive for action I love getting down and doing it and getting it done. This dragging it out and doing it little by little is frustrating the living daylights out of me but seems to be the only way that it’s going to happen.
Best of luck with the new job and congrats on landing it. I’m really looking forward to following your progress with your CCIE.
